Kellie Ell is an investigative reporter, currently covering the financials of retail and consumer-facing companies for Debtwire, including restructuring, debt, the bond market, LBOs, M&A and more.

Prior to joining Debtwire, Kellie covered the financials of the retail industry for Women’s Wear Daily (WWD), a fashion magazine. At WWD, she covered public companies listed on the New York Stock Exchange, such as American Eagle Outfitters, Victoria’s Secret, Lululemon, Farfetch, Target, Walmart, Urban Outfitters and Tapestry, in addition to private companies, such as SavageX Fenty, Kim Kardashian’s Skims, La Perla and Cosabella, among others. Kellie frequently interviewed retail CEOs and other senior-leadership executives for stories, panels and on-stage speaking events. While at WWD, she was also a regular contributor to WWD’s Equal Measure section, focusing on disabilities in the fashion industry and leading coverage of deaf and hard-of-hearing people in fashion.

Kellie has also worked for CNBC Digital and USA Today Money in New York, covering national business news. Before coming to New York, Kellie lived in South Korea for more than three years where she was an editor at one of South Korea’s largest basic science research centers. She has also worked as a transportation reporter in Nebraska, a general assignment reporter in Washington, D.C. and spent time in Mexico and Peru sharpening her Spanish-language skills.

Kellie received her undergraduate degree in photojournalism, magazine writing and American Sign Language from San Francisco State University and a master's degree in business journalism and economics from City University of New York in Manhattan.

In addition to covering business news, Kellie is interested in stories on health and wellness, gender equality and South Korea — her second home. (She promised her grandmother she would one day write a book about her time on the peninsula.)

When not pursuing journalism, Kellie can be found riding her bicycle, traveling or making her way through a mountain of library books.
